National success for Tasmanian business.
Tasmanian Perpetual Trustees Limited ranked number 1 in Australian Corporate Governance Survey
Mr Mark Scanlon, Managing Director of Tasmanian Perpetual Trustees Limited (TPTL, ASX: TPX) today welcomed the announcement that TPTL has been ranked as number 1 in the recently released Horwath Australia Mid-Cap Corporate Governance Report.
“This is a great outcome for TPTL.” Mr Scanlon said. “Not only is this a strong reflection of the business principles that we follow, it also clearly demonstrates to both our shareholders and clients that TPTL has systems and processes in place in which they can have the utmost confidence.”
The 2006 Horwath Australia Mid-Cap Corporate Governance Report was independently conducted by the University of Newcastle’s Associate Professor, Jim Psaros and reviewed the 2005 publicly reported corporate governance structures for companies ranked between 251 and 400 in market capitalisation on the Australian Stock Exchange.
Mr Andrew Pearce, a Director of Horwath (Vic) Pty Ltd, one of Australia’s leading associations of independent accounting tax and consulting firms, said that TPTL ranked highly on all key aspects of the Survey.
“TPTL obtained the highest possible five-star rating as assessed by Associate Professor Psaros, in areas such as the independence of directors and auditors, board committee structures and codes of corporate governance practices,” Mr Pearce said.
“It is clear that TPTL is one of the companies setting the standard in Australia today in the vitally important area of corporate governance and we hope that it is a standard that other businesses throughout Australia will aspire to.”
